Preparing for cosmetic tattooing of the lips and brows is crucial to ensure the best results and a smooth healing process. Here are the key steps to follow:
- Do NOT book appointment if you are under 18, pregnant, taking antibiotics, taking blood thinning medications, or Roaccutane/doxycycline or anything similar, have viral infections or diseases, are currently undergoing radiation or chemotherapy, have any broken skin in the treatment area (including acne or cold sores) suffer from keloid scarring or diabetic.
Please Note - For health and safety reasons, children, pets, family members and friends are not allowed in the room. If this policy is not followed, we will unfortunately have to cancel your appointment and booking fee will be forfeited.
1 - Schedule a consultation to discuss your expectations, skin type, and suitability for the procedure.
2- Purchase of numbing cream: Numbing cream is not supplied as it is illegal to do so. T. Brows, Lashes & CO has an arrangement with a Compounding Pharmacy and you must order your anaesthetic within 24 hrs of booking your appointment. Please call Formulae Maroochydore - Phone: (07) 5406 3977 to purchase your numbing cream no later than 5 days prior to your appointment.
It will be enough anaesthetic to cover your initial appointment and 6 - 8 weeks touch up.
3 - Two Weeks Before the Appointment
• Avoid sun exposure: Stay away from tanning beds or direct sun exposure to prevent skin damage.
• Stop certain skincare products: Discontinue the use of Retinol, Retin-A, or acids (like glycolic or salicylic acid) on the areas to be tattooed.
• Avoid certain procedures: Do not undergo chemical peels, laser treatments, or facial treatments that may irritate the skin.
• No Botox or fillers: Avoid injections in the brow or lip areas to ensure accurate tattooing placement.
4 - One Week Before the Appointment
• Avoid blood-thinning substances: Stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, Vitamin E, or alcohol to minimize bleeding during the procedure.
• Hydrate your skin: Drink plenty of water and moisturize the lips and brows (if needed) to ensure the skin is in good condition.
5 - Two to Three Days Before the Appointment
• Avoid caffeine and alcohol: These can increase sensitivity and bleeding during the procedure.
• Stop exfoliation: Avoid scrubs or harsh cleansers on the lips and brows.
6- The Day of the Appointment
• Cleanse your face: Wash your face thoroughly but avoid applying makeup to the areas to be tattooed.
• Wear comfortable clothing: Choose something that allows you to relax during the session.
• Eat a light meal: Ensure you’ve eaten to avoid feeling faint during the procedure.
7- For Lip Tattooing Specifically
• Address cold sores: If you are prone to cold sores, take an antiviral medication like Acyclovir (as prescribed by your doctor) 2–3 days before the procedure. Lip tattooing can trigger outbreaks.
• Hydrate lips: Keep your lips well-moisturized in the days leading up to the procedure using a lip balm or hydrating mask.
A 6 week waiting period is required after receiving lip fillers before booking a lip tattoo appointment or 6 weeks after your touch up.
-
Aftercare Expectations
• Be prepared for some swelling, redness, and scabbing during the healing process.
• Your artist will provide aftercare instructions—follow them closely for optimal results.
- post:
Please follow the instructions for up to 14 days after the procedure to improve and prolong the result
The healing process typically takes 7-10 days, during this time the colour will look more intense. The true colour of your newly tattooed makeup will appear around the 3 weeks mark. For some clients it will be perfect after the first procedure, for others it may be too light or become patchy in some areas. Don't worry - we will perfect the look when you come in for your scheduled touch up appointment in 6 weeks time.
Brows:
No makeup should be applied directly on the eyebrows during the healing process.
Avoid wetting eyebrows during the healing process. If your eyebrows get wet during the healing process pat them dry with a towel, DO NOT RUB.
Avoid sauna/steam rooms/sunbeds during the healing process.
Do not touch, rub, pick or scratch your brows following the treatment.
You may find that your eyebrows will scab or become slightly dry following the treatment.
Apply your healing balm as directed or up to 3 times p/day 5 days.
You can use cotton swabs and mild soap to remove previous layers of balm or to cleanse your eyebrows and rinsing your tattoo under a very gentle trickle of water each day, without exposing your tattoo to full water pressure.
Call to schedule a 6 weeks perfection touch-up appointment (additional cost)
Avoid excess sun exposure because this can cause the pigment to fade and can affect the healing process.
Avoid using daily skincare products directly on your eyebrows.
Any chemical peel or medical procedure should be discussed after healing is complete.
If you are due to give blood after the procedure, please inform the medical technician about the Nanoblading procedure.
Avoid strenuous activities that cause excess sweating for at least 7 days.
Avoid dirty environments where dust may come in contact with the healing skin.
Do not dye, wax, tweeze or use an electrolysis on the treatment area for 2 weeks.
Lips:
Immediately after the treatment, your lips will be slightly swollen and tender. Colour will appear much darker at first
Apply barrier cream constantly to keep lips moist. This will help with tenderness as well as holding in the colour. If you do not apply enough cream, your lips will become tight and pigmentation will fall out. Always apply before showering
Please do not pick - lips will exfoliate on their own, usually after 3-4 days. Barrier cream will help!
Do not bleach your teeth for 4 weeks after the procedure
No lip fillers for one month after lip treatment is completed
No lick or wipe lips with a napkin
No hot drinks or spicy food for the first day
No lipstick, kissing or direct water for 3 days (drink through a straw)
Moist lipstick can be worn after 4 days
Full lip colour can take up to 4 weeks for the colour to settle. Do not judge the colour before then !
Full lip treatments do take longer, usually a week before swelling/peeling has finished
Please do not be worried if you lose colour! It is normal to lose 50-80% the first time
Cold sores - if you have ever had a cold sore, you will more than likely break out. This is caused by stress on the lips. Please consult your GP on how to minimise this risk.
